INDIANAPOLIS -- An Amtrak train slammed into a car that apparently failed to stop at an east side crossing.
The accident happened just before 3:00 p.m. Saturday near East Burgess Ave. and South Ritter. Witnesses say the train sounded its horn, but a woman pulled her car onto the tracks before it was hit.
The Indianapolis Fire Department says the woman driving the car is in her 20's and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. The woman's three-year-old was taken to Riley Hospital but was in good condition.
None of the 130 people on board the train was injured. Train 51 was running on Amtrak's Cardinal line and was on its way to Chicago at the time. Amtrak says the train was already running several hours late due to storm delays on the east coast.
