GREENSBURG, Ind. -- An Indianapolis woman was killed early Tuesday morning when she ran onto I-74 near Greensburg.

Decatur County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 140-mile marker of I-70 around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a woman struck by a semi-truck.

They arrived to find Deborah D. Dillard, 54, of Indianapolis, critically injured. She was transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 69-year-old Rensselaer, Indiana, man, was not injured.

Police said initial investigation showed Dillard had stopped in the emergency lane of I-74 due to a fight with a female passenger. At some point during the fight, both Dillard and the other woman ran across the eastbound lanes of the interstate, where she was hit by the semi.

The driver of the truck told police he attempted to go into the median of the interstate to avoid Dillard, but wasn't able to do so in time.
