BOONE COUNTY — A 45-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision in Boone County early Saturday morning.

Boone County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Chris Burcham said dispatchers received calls about a small black car swerving on the roadway on State Road 47 before 8 a.m., a short time later calls came in about a head-on collision in the same area near near County Road 600 West.

Sgt. Burcham said responding deputies extricated Tammy Kelly from her vehicle and began CPR until medics arrived. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The second driver, a 63-year-old man from Arizona told detectives he saw the vehicle swerving before it went off the roadway and over-corrected, fishtailing towards his vehicle. The driver said he tried to avoid the collision but was unable.

He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
