GREENWOOD, Ind. – An Indianapolis woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in Greenwood.
Officers with the Greenwood Police Department said they found 53-year-old Theresa Jean Shaffer dead as a result of her injuries near US 31 and Main Street around 10 p.m.
Witnesses said they saw Shaffer walking east on Main Street and crossing US 31 when she walked directly into traffic. She was hit by a 2004 Dodge Stratus.
Police said she was wearing all dark clothing.
Traffic lights were green for both north and sound traffic during the time Shaffer was fatally hit, officers said.
The driver and passenger of the Dodge were uninjured, and the driver tested negative for alcohol impairment.
Police are seeking help in contacting Shaffer’s family about the incident.
