INDIANAPOLIS -- It’s been one a year since Carrier first announced they were moving their workforce to Mexico and deals have been made to keep a majority of those jobs in the state but when will they be approved?
Carrier is still sending jobs down to Monterrey, but the number being sent significantly dropped after the company struck a deal with the state and President Donald Trump’s administration.
The president visited Indianapolis in December to announce the $7 million deal with Carrier that would keep a huge chunk of their jobs in the state.
Under the deal Carrier will get $5 million for keeping jobs in Indianapolis. They’ll be eligible for another $1 million towards training if they retain 1,069 jobs. They’re also offered $1 million more for their plan to invest $16 million in their Indianapolis facility.
The company will receive the tax breaks over the course of ten years – but the deal is far from complete.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation Board must approve and vote on that deal before the company gets any of the money.
And that still hasn’t happened.
The IEDC said its normal for deals like this to take longer for the board to approve; they released the following statement to RTV6 on Friday:
“From a board approval standpoint, the timeline for this project is consistent with other projects that require board approval.
Typically, these offers are voted on during our quarterly meetings.”
