INDIANAPOLIS — As June (Pride Month) approaches, the transportation company, Lyft, is proving to be strong allies of the LGBTQ community.

In a national initiative, Lyft's ride-sharing app is providing inclusive pronoun options for both the passengers and drivers who use the app.

Both parties can now choose from the following pronouns for their profile:

  • They/Them/Theirs
  • She/Her/Hers
  • He/Him/His
  • My pronoun isn't listed
  • Prefer not to say

The app's new feature is Lyft's way of showing support for their transgender drivers, as well.

Lyft will also provide $200 in financial assistance in name changing fees for its transgender drivers, in partnership with the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).

"As a company that strives to create an inclusive environment inside and outside of the car, we're excited to celebrate all that Pride means for our community this June," Cebronica Luft, market manager for Lyft of Central Indiana, said.

Bob Schultz, with Lyft of Central Indiana, said the following in a statement:

"As a company, Lyft places an emphasis on upholding an inclusive and diverse environment - whether it's during a ride or at a Driver Hub. One of Lyft's core values is to 'be yourself,' and we're proud to celebrate Pride and the LGBTQ+ community."
