MARION CO. — A 24-year-old volunteer track coach for Cathedral High School was arrested on child seduction charges.

Curtis Steger was arrested on Dec. 11, and posted bond on Dec. 13.

The affidavit states that the minor victim had often confided in Steger, and after the 2018 track season was over, Steger had begun following her on social media, including Snapchat.

By the time the school year was done and summer started, the minor and Steger had begun communicating daily via text and Snapchat, according to the court filing. Soon after, the minor admits to visiting Steger's household up to six times.

Romantic affairs began by the second visit.

In November, the minor ended the relationship with the 24-year-old and by December had asked him to stop communication with her.

By the time the minor ended the relationship with the coach, the minor turned 18-years-old.

The coach went on the minor's class trip and had persisted contact in the form of a letter.

During a search at Steger's house a journal was found that included letters/journal entries to the minor along the lines of loving. missing, and wanting to be with her. There were a total of eight between the dates of December 3 to 10.

During all alleged sexual contacts the victim was 17-years-old.

Steger was an assistant coach for the Cathedral girl's high school soccer team as well.

Cathedral High School had the following statement to say regarding Steger:

"Cathedral High School severed all ties with the volunteer track/soccer coach as soon as we learned of his arrest. We will continue to work with authorities throughout the investigation."
