MORGAN COUNTY — More than three dozen people were arrested as part of a warrant sweep in Morgan County on Friday.

At least 70 officers from different departments took part in the sweep, showing up at homes and searching for suspects.

Some of the arrests went without incident, others weren't so easy.

"When they see police they immediately dart," Mooresville Police Department Sgt. Christopher Hester said. "It's hard being in the hunt for a human being, trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guy is not easy."

Not only is it difficult to make many of these arrests, it can also be one of the most dangerous parts of an officer's job.

"Unfortunately some of the officers who have been shot in the line of duty in the last several years have been misdemeanor warrants," Morgan Co. Deputy Tim Coryell said. "Every warrant you serve you never know. People don't want to go to jail. We have to take that into consideration for safety and security."

More than 30 suspects were arrested on Friday and police will continue their sweep over the next week as they try to round up roughly 130 people wanted on felony warrants.

Police say if a suspect knows they have a warrant out for them, the easiest course of action would be to just turn themselves in.
