Andrew Wheeler nominated by President Trump to be permanent EPA chief

Posted

Acting Environmental Protection Agency Chief Andrew Wheeler has been nominated by President Trump to fill the role permanently.

Wheeler is a former energy lobbyist who has acted as the EPA head for half a year. This nomination was expected.

Former Chief Scott Pruitt resigned in July 2018.

Wheeler shares Trump's beliefs on climate change and his approach to environmental regulation. He was narrowly voted by the Senate to be the EPA's deputy administrator last April.

When Wheeler accepted the acting chief role, Trump tweeted "the future of the EPA is very bright!"
