Could former president George H.W. Bush buck his party and vote for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton?

That's what one high-profile individual is saying.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the daughter of Robert Kennedy, posted on Facebook that Bush told her he would be voting for Clinton, according to CNN. Townsend served as the Maryland lieutenant governor. She is a Democrat.

But given a chance to confirm the story, a spokesman for Bush demurred.

"The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days," Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told CNN. "He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim."

Jeb Bush, the son of George H.W. Bush, lost to Republican candidate Donald Trump in the primary and has often slammed Trump throughout the campaign.
