DETROIT, Mich. -- The Detroit Red Wings are paying tribute to two boys who died in a Monday morning house fire in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

The team posted a photo on Twitter with "sticks out" in honor of the 9-year-old and 11-year-old. The now trending hashtag reads: #SticksOutForLoganAndBriggs.

Police say the boys are 9-year-old Logan Connolly and 11-year-old Walter B. Connolly. They loved to play hockey, and that is how they are being remembered.

Briggs played for the youth hockey program in Saint Clair Shores. Logan played for the East Side Bulldogs, where WXYZ was told the coach is devastated by his death.

On Tuesday, police said fire investigators confirmed that the blaze began in the kitchen of the family’s home . Investigators will now be trying to determine the cause of the fire and whether there was an electrical problem or something wrong with an appliance.

Officials say the two boys were found in the upstairs bedroom during the three-alarm fire.

"We're not going to be sure exactly what happened whether the smoke forced them to retreat back up into a bedroom..." said Grosse Pointe Public Safety Chief Stephen Poloni. "Always teach kids to get out at all costs.. Throw a chair through it. Get out of the house."

As people from all over metro Detroit remember the young lives lost, the mourning will continue Wednesday night at a prayer vigil for the boys.

The vigil will take place at Saint Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe at 6 p.m.
