Indiana woman dies after diving at shipwreck site in Florida

MIAMI — An Indiana woman died while scuba diving at a popular shipwreck off Key West on Thursday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in Florida, Rebecca Butler Power, 59, was diving with the commercial dive boat Southpoint Divers in Key West when the incident occurred.

The sheriff's office says she surfacing from 100 feet at the site of the USS Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg just south of Key West when she went into distress.

Power was taken to Coast Guard Station Key West around 10:30 a.m. to waiting Key West Fire Rescue paramedics who transported her to Lower Keys Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

No foul play is suspected in the incident, which remains under investigation.

Power's cause of death will be determined by the coroner's office.
