ST. JOHN, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Police are searching for a woman from Louisville, Kentucky, who went missing last Thursday in the U.S. Virgin Islands, officials said.

According to a news release from the Virgin Islands National Park, 48-year-old Lucy Schuhmann went missing Sept. 19 on St. John, the smallest of the Virgin islands.

A missing person's page has been set up for Schuhmann on Facebook.

Officials said the host of the Airbnb where Schuhmann was staying reported her missing after she failed to check out on schedule.

According to the release, Schuhmann's belongings were found in the room and her rental Jeep was later found in a parking lot near the Salt Pond area.

A search of the area turned up a day pack on the Ram Head Trail that belonged to Schuhmann.

Officials said additional ground and water searches were planned, but the approach of Tropical Storm Karen threatened to complicate those plans.

The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, flash floods and mudslides to the Virgin Islands on Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Park officials asked anyone with information about the case to call 866-995-8467, option 2.
