A militant who was instrumental in the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya has been captured.

A special operations forces raid took place in Libya, the Associated Press reports. Mustafa al-Imam is being transported to the United States, and officials who released this information demanded anonymity, AP says.

al-Imam was captured just before midnight local time on Sunday and is expected to be in the U.S. within the next two days.

The September 2012 attack killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, and was investigated by Congress to determine if there was any misinformation to the public from President Barack Obama's administration.

The Benghazi attacks probe brought to light then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server to conduct government work.
