Retail employees help mother save Christmas

Posted

Imagine giving your child that perfect Christmas gift, only to find out on Christmas morning that the gift was defective. That was what happened last week to Michele Downing Berg as the doll she gave to her daughter was defective.

While the moment could have ruined the family's holiday, some quick thinking by employees at the retail giant Target helped keep the day special.

"She was devastated and we had tears," Berg said on a Facebook post to Target. "Due to the price of this doll, she only had two other small toys for Christmas. I told her Santa works with Target and we'd figure something out once Santa rested up from Christmas Eve."

When she called Target, an employee identified as Judy helped Berg salvage the holiday.

Judy, and another employee identified as Maggie, both told the girl that Santa Claus had come to Target to help her get the correct toy. The employees' actions delighted Berg.

"I cannot thank the wonderful staff who did this enough," Berg said. "They really touched a little girl and kept the magic of Christmas alive for her."

Target responded to Berg with a statement on its Facebook page.

"Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful experience with us. Our Team Members are always happy to assist our guests with anything they may need. We've shared your feedback with the Andover store's Leadership team so they can pass along your kind words with Maggie and Judy. We look forward to the next time we can make your day special."

As of Tuesday evening, the post had been shared nearly 12,000 times and had 300,000 likes.
