Chris Hansen, the former "Dateline NBC" reporter best known for his "To Catch a Predator" segments, was arrested in Connecticut for allegedly writing a bad check, NBC News reported.
Hansen was accused by police in Stamford of using a bad check to pay a vendor.
Stamford Sgt. Sean Scanlan told NBC News that Hansen allegedly bought $13,000 worth of promotional items, such as hats and t-shirts, from a local company. The alleged incident was in the summer of 2017.
A warrant was issued for Hansen's arrest after Hansen refused to speak to police. Hansen was then charged with felony larceny.
Hansen has since been released on bond.
Hansen was a reporter for NBC from 1981 through 2013. But it was his work from 2004 through 2007 that garnered the most attention.
Hansen, along with local law enforcement and volunteers, participated in controversial sting operations designed to catch adults trying to meet juveniles illegally for sex. Hansen would typically interview the suspect who entered the sting operation before Hansen would hand over the suspect to law enforcement.
In 2016, Hansen joined the syndicated program "Crime Watch Daily." The show was axed from broadcast stations last summer.
