Hoosiers earned $21.6M in extra income by being Airbnb hosts over the summer

INDIANAPOLIS — Airbnb released revenue numbers today for summer hosts in Indiana. According to the company, Hoosiers earned a combined $21.6 million in supplemental income, and welcomed 164,700 guests to the state between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.

The Indianapolis 500 kicked off the summer season with Airbnb, as Hoosiers welcomed more than 5,000 guests to Indy and earned nearly $750,000 in extra income, according to the company. Other large holiday draws this year were Gen Con 2019 and Labor Day weekend.

The top five destinations in the state for guests this summer were:

  • Indianapolis
  • South Bend
  • Bloomington
  • Michigan City
  • Carmel

According to Airbnb, guests who rented homes in the state came from these cities the most:

  • Chicago
  • Indianapolis
  • Fort Wayne
  • Cincinnati
  • Louisville
