INDIANAPOLIS — A state representative says she will not challenge Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb in the 2020 campaign.

After traveling around the state considering a bid, Democrat Karlee Macer of Indianapolis announced on Tuesday she will not do so.

Representative Macer criticized Holcomb in his leadership of the state's Department of Veteran Affairs after it granted money to employees that was intended for military veterans.

Former health commissioner Woody Myers is the only declared Democratic candidate so far.

Indiana senator Eddie Melton, D-Gary, is also considering a bid.

Senator Melton released the following statement after learning of Macer's decision:

“Representative Macer is a tremendous leader in our party. I have always enjoyed working with her in the legislature and have further enjoyed getting to know her better as we have traveled the state this summer. As a member of the Democratic Party, I look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Macer as we fight to improve the lives of Hoosier families.
