Rep. Susan Brooks took the lead in Indiana’s 5th District congressional race as she faced off against two other candidates.
Brooks, a Republican, won with percent of the vote Tuesday night and will continue to serve the state’s 5th district as a U.S. Representative.
Initially, she withdrew from the race in July 2016 to run for governor. However, she was not chosen to fill the vacancy. She then began to seek re-election for her House of Representative seat.

Brooks said she'd fight against any legislation that would undo Indiana’s concealed-carry laws or handgun license rules.
Also, she wants to repeal Obamacare, saying it’s “ill-conceived” and “a huge mistake.”
In the past, she has served as Indiana’s Southern District U.S. Attorney, deputy mayor of Indianapolis, and an attorney.
Brooks was first elected congresswoman in the district in 2013.
