Wife of former GOP Rep. Marlin Stutzman eyes Statehouse bid

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The wife of a former Indiana congressman who came under ethics investigation for spending campaign contributions on personal expenses is contemplating a Statehouse run.

Christy Stutzman wrote on Facebook that she is giving serious consideration to a bid for a seat representing parts of Elkhart County in the Indiana House. Current Republican state Rep. Wes Culver has announced he won't seek re-election next year.

Stutzman said she and her husband, former GOP Rep. Marlin Stutzman, are praying as they prepare to make a decision. She asked her supporters to do the same.

Marlin Stutzman left Congress after a failed 2016 primary bid for Senate. His loss came amid ethics concerns following an Associated Press investigation revealing the family spent campaign funds on hotels, meals and at least one family trip.
