MADISON COUNTY — The Madison County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a fatal crash involving a car and train this morning.

According to the office, they were called around 8:24 a.m. to the intersection of County Road 400 W. and County Road 1150 N. near Alexandria to investigate the accident.

The train was traveling west and the vehicle was crossing the tracks north.

According to the train engineer the car never slowed down for the crossing. The engineer said he sounded his horn at the car as it approached and struck the car on the passenger side.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Chad M Stafford of Anderson and the passenger as Stephen R Stafford II of Anderson. The two were brothers, according to coroner Troy Abbott.

Both the men were pronounced dead on the scene.

Sheriff Scott C Mellinger tells WRTV neither of them were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
