Columbus man, 73, dies in three-vehicle crash

COLUMBUS — A 73-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Monday in Columbus.

According to a report from the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to the intersection of 10th Street and Whitfield Drive on report of a three-vehicle crash shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

Police said a 1995 Ford F-250 collided exited a business parking lot and was traveling south when it collided in the intersection with a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer that had been traveling west on 10th Street. After the impact of the crash, the Blazer struck a 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL450 SUV.

The driver of the Ford, Dennis A. Deffenbaugh, 73, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Nicoleta D. Dailey, 39, of Hope, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and later to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. The driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
