Wabash man fatally shot by SWAT team officers serving warrant

WABASH — Officers serving a search warrant killed a man and injured a woman during an exchange of gunfire Thursday afternoon at a Kosciusko County home, state police said.

Roger D. Hipskind, 37, died and a 35-year-old woman was injured in the shooting that occurred around 5:45 p.m. at an apartment in the 60 block of East Main Street in Wabash.

Members of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department SWAT team entered the apartment to serve the warrant and gunfire was exchanged with one or both of the people inside, according to Indiana State Police, which is investigating the incident.

Hipskind was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital. Her condition was not available.

State police said no officers were injured.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and state police will forward information to the Wabash County Prosecutor's Office for review.
