RECALL: Ikea baby safety gates can come unlocked, cause injuries

IKEA PATRULL, PATRULL FAST and PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gates and safety gate extensions sold from August 1995 through June 2016 have been recalled.

The gates and gate extensions are white, made of beech wood or steel and plastic. A permanent label is attached to the metal bar at the bottom of the safety gate containing "IKEA" and the article number. The PATRULL safety gate has article number 702.390.98. The PATRULL safety gate extension has article number 602.651.44. The PATRULL FAST safety gate (white) has article number 700.377.26 and 702.265.19. The PATRULL FAST safety gate (beech wood) has article numbers 300.375.68, 700.989.51, 701.135.98 and 901.919.53. The PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gate has article number 302.265.21. The PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gate extension has article numbers 302.651.45 and 902.265.23.

WHY: The locking mechanism can open unexpectedly, posing a danger to children and other consumers.

INCIDENTS: Fifty-five reports of incidents worldwide, including 10 injuries that resulted in two concussions and cuts and bruising. Four of the incidents were reported in the U.S., with two resulting in cuts and bruising to children.

HOW MANY: About 80,000 in the U.S. and about 28,000 in Canada. The PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gates were previously recalled in May 2015.
