DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. -- A high school band trip that happens every four years is in jeopardy after the money they’d been raising for their trip went missing from the account.
A parent who served as treasurer for the Barr-Reeve High School Band Boosters is charged with stealing the money that was raised to take students on the trip to Disney World this March.
The trip costs about $60,000 for 35 students and 13 adult chaperones to go and perform at Disney parks in Orlando, and the funds were in the school account.
But when the band director and superintendent checked that account recently, they noticed between $30,000-$35,000 missing.
The parent has been arrested and Superintendent Travis Madison said he thought they would have to cancel the trip because there was no way they could raise so much money in just a few short months.
But thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, Madison says it looks like the trip will happen after all.
“We’ve had folks reach out and communicate that they wanted to do whatever is necessary to make sure that the kids can go on the trip,” Madison said. “We are meeting to figure out how that will work and go together.”
The trip is planned for March 23 and has been re-booked, but the superintendent says they are still working to raise the rest of the funding.
If you would like to help you can reach out to the Barr-Reeve High School superintendent’s office.
