Census workers begin door knocks Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS — Just like everything else in 2020, the 2020 Census deadline was pushed back.

Starting Thursday, census enumerators will be going door-to-door to reach out if you didn't mail back the form.

Each person is Marion County that is counted in the census means $30,000 to the county over the next decade for programs like WIC-rent and utility assistance and so much more.

Currently, Marion County is at a 61.5% response rate, and Thursday census workers will be across the state knocking on the home of
people who have not responded yet.

Any census that comes to your door should have identification that they are indeed a census employee, plus they also will be following COVID-19 safety precautions.

Tony Mason with the Indianapolis Urban League says the COVID-19 pandemic is proving just how important this funding is to our state.

"These resources are going to be needed by people," Mason said. "This is about helping people and so no family should go without food housing and all the critical things that you need in order to have a reasonable quality of life. Yes, I know that people are dealing with a lot of challenges now just trying to survive the moment but if you could please just take ten minutes to complete the census."

If you are concerned that a census worker isn't the real deal, you can call 844-330-2020 to double-check with the operator.
