TIPPECANOE CO. — This morning, a driver lost consciousness while choking on a piece of candy, and crashed his semi into a concrete median on I-65 north bound.

The driver was operating a red 2018 Freightliner owned by C.R. England when he was eating a piece of chocolate that led to his choking.

The semi swerved off the left side of the road, striking the metal median barrier.

The truck hit and damaged a 2016 Jeep heading south bound. Debris from the crash caused both the south bound and north bound left lanes to be shut down for clean up.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

The semi driver was transported to UI Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with breathing problems.
