INDIANAPOLIS -- IMPD investigators say a man and a woman are dead after a single car crash near 16th and Illinois St. just north of downtown Indianapolis early Thursday morning.
The crash happened just after 1 a.m.
Police say the woman was pronounced dead inside the car. The man was taken to Eskenazi hospital, but died a short time later.
Investigators say the car involved was a Tesla electric vehicle. Its main battery broke loose from the vehicle, and was thrown onto Illinois St. The battery was still sparking when an RTV6 crew arrived on scene.
