WHEELING, Ill. -- A suburban Chicago funeral home has obtained a liquor permit that will allow mourners to toast departed loved ones with alcoholic drinks.
Kolssak Funeral Home in Wheeling recently received a liquor license from the village of Wheeling. Owner Jon Kolssak tells the Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/1MCc3bq) he believes his funeral home is the first in Illinois to obtain a special use permit allowing it to serve alcohol.

He says families were asking if they could have alcohol at memorial events.
The Wisconsin-based National Funeral Directors Association say Kolssak's move to offer special packages include liquor and catered food is part of a broader trend in which funeral homes are taking steps to accommodate receptions held in conjunction with a wake, funeral or memorial service.
