INDIANAPOLIS — Thieves have been stealing metal from churches on the southwest side of Indianapolis.
The thefts and crimes of opportunity are costing the churches a lot of money.
At the West Morris Free Methodist Church, the thefts have cost the church $51,000 since July.

Three other churches on the southwest side have also been the victim of thefts.
In October, the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church was no longer able to use its van to take elderly members to church because the van's catalytic converter was taken.
"We went out in our individual cars to pick up folks because they want to be here," Pastor David Buckner said. "It's the highlight of their week."
Buckner says if the person who stole the converter would have asked for help, they would have helped them.
"If the person would have needed cash or help, come knock on the door," Buckner said. "We would be glad to help."
A church member donated a new van to the church.
