INDIANAPOLIS — Wednesday was Veteran’s Day and as we honor all the veterans who served our country, we’re also learning more about a local effort to help the more than 30,000 women in Indiana who took the oath.

Air Force veteran Lisa Wilken is working to connect women who served as they often face unique challenges. She is organizing a women veteran listening series.

It’s a chance for women to talk about things like the success and progress they’ve made in the military, their struggles, and military sexual trauma.

The sessions will be broadcasted on Facebook.

Wilken said she hopes it empowers women and helps make their voices heard.

“Why don't women self-identify as veterans? Why aren't we joining our organizations? Or, we join and we are not active. It is important as women that we change that because we need to have a voice at the table,” Wilken said.
