In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — While many of us are safe at home right now, if you’re in the market for a new pet, officials say now is a good time.

Due to COVID-19 a lot of shelters are closed to the public, but animal welfare is still the top of mind, so in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Indy Humane is doing one-on-one adoptions by appointment.

Indy Humane CEO David Horth wants people to know they can adopt, not shop because Indy Humane is open for business.

“Just in a different way. We’re still in-taking animals, we are still adopting animals, we are fostering animals. We are considered an essential business at this time, and we are doing everything we can possibly to for animal welfare,” Horth said.

In a normal two-week period, Indy Humane adopts out nearly 150 animals. Horth said they’re averaging about half that now. He said if you aren’t able to adopt right now you can consider fostering or making a monetary donation.
