MARTINSVILLE — Churches in Mission is an organization partnering with area churches, nonprofits, businesses, and individuals to help provide food and hygiene products to those who need them in the county, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are seeing a major increase in our demand for what resources we are providing," David Maurer, executive director of Churches in Mission, said. "So we are trying to ask everyone in the community to come alongside us."

Due to the pandemic, Churches in Mission is unable to host their typical fundraising event, which last year was held at The Sycamore at Mallow Run in Bargersville.

This year they are still hoping to drum up support for their cause and maybe reach even more eyes by going entirely virtual.

WRTV is the exclusive media partner and is broadcasting the fundraiser live on our Facebook page.

To take part in the virtual fundraiser and support Churches in Mission, visit churchesinmission.org and follow the link to their event site.

There you can register for the event and watch the live show, and also bid on auction items.

The auction is now open and will remain open through 8 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Once you register, you will get a pin number texted to your phone. Be sure to hang onto the pin number as you will need that during the event to bid on auction items.

Even though we cannot gather in person, Churches in Mission also wants to share a meal together while watching virtually, so you can pre-order a family meal from Gray's Cafeteria the night of the event.

20 percent of the profits from pre-orders will be donated to Churches in Mission.

If you don't get a chance to pre-order, no problem.

You can dine-in or carry-out on the night of the event and 10 percent of your order will still be donated to Churches in Mission.

If you are a Morgan County resident in need, there are two locations for people to pick up items.
