INDIANAPOLIS – Andrew Luck pulled off a trick play on students at Lapel Elementary School on Friday.
Luck surprised the third graders in Mrs. Janning's class with a "quarterback sneak" as their prize for winning the Riley Children's Health "Change the Play" spring school challenge.
"Change the Play" is a kids’ health and wellness program developed jointly by Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck and Riley Children’s at Indiana University Health to teach kids ages 5-13 how to make good decisions about nutrition, exercise and overall health.
The groups challenged classrooms across the state to complete at least two weeks of the eight-week "Change the Play" school program and submit an essay describing their own health and wellness programs.
The students in each class tackled a different health and wellness topic each week, including hydration, stress relief, healthy recipes and good sleep habits. The third graders at Lapel Elementary School created a unique school-wide program called "Bulldog Bounce" that incorporated messages into their daily PA announcements and a special Bulldog Bounce routine.
Luck and Riley Children’s Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Paul Haut delivered a healthy snack to the class and talked with the students and talked with them about the challenge.
After visiting the classroom, Luck surprised the rest of the school during an assembly where he took questions and led students in a group exercise session.
Three Change the Play summer camps are scheduled in Columbus (June 10), Ft. Wayne (June 11) and Indianapolis (June 13) this summer. Learn more at www.iuhealth.org/changetheplay.
