MUNCIE -- Ball State has hired a new football coach.

Mike Neu is a native of Indianapolis and a former Ball State quarterback.

He started 38 of 41 games at quarterback in his four seasons at Ball State.

Neu was named 1993 Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

He played professionally in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League from 1995 - 97, then coached in the AFL from 1998 - 2002.

From 2008 - 12, Neu joined the New Orleans Saints' player personnel staff and spent 2012 and 2013 with Tulane as  quarterbacks coach.

In 2014, Neu was named quarterbacks coach for the Saints.

Former Cardinals head coach, Pete Lembo, resigned last December to take an assistant position at Maryland.
