PROVIDENCE — Butler has one of the nation's top defenses, and it showed Friday against Providence.
The Bulldogs held the Friars to 29% shooting in a 70-58 road win. Butler, ranked sixth in the nation, is now 15-1 and 3-0 in the Big East.
The Dogs, who shot 55% for the game, led by 12 at the half and increased their lead to 16 with less than seven minutes to go.
Providence had won four in a row coming into the game and was 3-0 in conference play.
Jordan Tucker and Kamar Baldwin shared the scoring honors for Butler, each with 17 points.
The Bulldogs are off until Wednesday when they host Seton Hall.
