Defending champion Florida State collected 56 of 62 first-place votes in USA Today’s college football poll, making it the consensus preseason pick.

The Seminoles, who went 14-0 last year and beat Auburn in the national championship game, finished ahead of Alabama (No. 2), Oklahoma (No. 3), Oregon (No. 4) and Auburn (No. 5) atop the poll.

The USA Today rankings were compiled through a vote of 62 head coaches in college football.

Notre Dame, which finished 9-4, garnered a No. 17 preseason ranking.

Louisville, which is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference this season, received votes but did not make the top 25.
