BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Football Team suspended six players before Thursday night's season opener in Florida, including several players expected to be starters.

Senior defensive lineman Ralph Green II, juniors Simmie Cobbs Jr, Chase Dutra and Noel Padmore, sophomore cornerback Wesley Green and freshman defensive back Jake Attar were all suspended Thursday for "not living up to their responsibilities to the program at different times since the conclusion of the 2015 season."

All of the players – except Wesley Green, whose suspension is indefinite – were suspended for the team's opening game against Florida International University.

This is the second time Ralph Green III has been handed down a suspension before the season opener, and the second year in a row the team has started the season with a half dozen or more players on suspension.

In 2015, Tyler Burgett, Will Dawkins, Tim Gardner, Greg Gooch, Ralph Green III, Isaac Griffith, Darius Latham, Alex Rodriguez and Tegray Scales were all suspended for the first game of the season against Southern Illinois.

The team declined to provide specific reasons for the suspension in that case too, only saying they "have not lived up to their responsibilities to the program."
