GREENWOOD -- Ex-Colt, Zurlon Tipton Jr., was arrested early Friday morning after police say he fired an assault rifle outside his girlfriend's house in Greenwood.
Zurlon told police he and his brother drove to the girlfriend's house after he got text messages from her ex-boyfriend threatening to hurt her.
Zurlon said he thought the ex-boyfriend was in the house so sent his brother to the door. Police say Zurlon then fired a shot from an assault rifle while standing in the driveway.
Officers say the ex-boyfriend was not there.
Witnesses say they saw the men leave the scene in a Jeep. Police stopped them a few blocks away.
According to officers, a loaded 9mm handgun was found under the front seat and a loaded Colt AR-15 assault rifle was in the backseat.
Zurlon was arrested for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He was released from jail on a $3,000 bond.
Police say Zurlon was cooperative and he did have a valid handgun license from Michigan.
The Coltswaived Zurlon on December 21.
