HORSEPLAY: Is there a QB controversy for Colts?

Posted

At 40 and 4-0 at the helm of the Colts offense, is Matt Hasselbeck the right fit for this team over Andrew Luck when he's healthy?

Well, the numbers do support at least having the conversation.

Hasselbeck has a better completion percentage than Luck over the course of the two QBs' career (60.5% to 58.1%), but Luck's QB Rating is higher (82.7 vs, 85). This season in particular, Hasselbeck has the obvious upper hand with an undefeated record, a much higher QB Rating (94.4 vs. 74.9) and a better completion percentage (64.7 vs. 55.3), but it's considered an anomaly for Luck because of his injuries.

And despite the fact that Hasselbeck has been to a Super Bowl, he's 5-6 in the playoffs while Luck is 3-3.

So the answer is no. As we broke down on Horseplay Monday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., maybe if it were the other way around where Hasselbeck was 26 and Luck was 40 like what's going on in Denver with Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, it could be a conversation worth having, but no. When Luck is ready, he'll come back and he'll take the starting job.
