INDIANAPOLIS -- Several high school basketball players have been suspended by the Indiana High School Athletics Association for playing on a "non-sanctioned" league during the 2017-18 basketball season.
In total, eight players were suspended for anywhere from one to four games.
Six of those players are from the Noblesville High School varsity team. The other two play for Hamilton Heights.
Both schools self-reported the infractions to IHSAA.
Rule 15-1.2 from the IHSAA bylaws states:
Participation by a student in any organized non-school sports competition during the Authorized Contest Season, or at any time prior to the conclusion of the student’s participation in the IHSAA the IHSAA Tournament Series, in that sport shall cause such students to become ineligible for their School team in that sport for a period not to exceed Three-hundred Sixty-five (365) days as determined by the Commissioner.
One of the eight players was also kicked off of his team, but IHSAA has not released any further information on the incident.
No student names have been released.
