INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever outplayed the Dallas Wings 79-64 in game four of the season and only game two on their home court at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Natalie Achonwa scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, both season highs. She finished the game 6-of-10 from the field and knocked down all five of her free throw attempts. With this, the entirety of the Fever team went 20-of21 at the free throw line,
Erica Wheeler, second in the WNBA in assists, led the floor with nine assists over-all.
Indiana took the lead early on and held it through the remainder of the first half, with a 22-12 advantage by the second period.
The Fever opened the second half with an 11-5 run and built a 20-point lead over the Wings halfway through the third quarter.
As an even higher point of recognition for the team, Fever forward, Candice Dupree, passed her 1,000-point mark and now is only the second WNBA player in history to have scored over 1,000 points on three different teams.
Achonwa and Dupree both had double-doubles, which is not surprising as either one or the other has done so for Indiana since 2016.
"My game particularly, [Erica] Wheeler got on me for having zero rebounds the other day. So that was a big focus of mine to make sure that going and picking up some boards," Achonwa said. "So that was my approach and my energy today. And then as a team, we were really gritty."
Indiana shot 41.2 percent from the field while holding Dallas to 35.2 percent shooting. According to Joshua Doering, the Fever have shot a higher percentage than their opponent in all four of their games this season.
"It's obviously nice to pick up another win, and it's nice being led by Candice [Dupree] and Nat [Achonwa], our two vets. And Wheeler stayed solid," Pokey Chatman, Fever Head Coach, said. "We communicated well and stayed really connected throughout the game. That's a tribute to our veterans and everyone trusting each other. Overall, I'm happy."
The Fever continues their homestay on Sunday as they face the Phoenix Mercury.
