BURLINGTON, Va. — Columbus's Josh Speidel took the court and started the game for his senior night at the University of Vermont.

He was a highly touted recruit from Columbus North High School, but he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident in 2015.

Before he could play a game, Vermont kept him on his scholarship.

Through an agreement with Albany's coach, he made Vermont's first basket and completed his life-long dream of scoring in a college game.

"Looking back five years ago, I mean, that didn't seem possible," Speidel said. "I mean, I think, me, and my parents, we always believed but, I mean that, that was a far-off dream. That was a dream. Just to sit there today and score the lay-up and just to see my name in the box, box score."

He received a standing ovation as he came out of the game.

"Just okay, I did it. I did it. It was hard work, but it was for something," Speidel said.

Vermont won against Albany 85-62.
