INDIANAPOLS — New Palestine High School is the Indiana 5A high school football champs, capping a perfect season with a 27-20 win over Valparaiso.
The score was tied at halftime, but New Pal put on a strong performance in the second half, going up by 10-points before Valparaiso cut it to seven.
Valparaiso, also hoping for a perfect season, finishes 13-1.
Earlier, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School scored a blowout 34-3 win over Heritage Hills of Lincoln City in the 3A state high school championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Heritage Hills was held to just one field goal, with Chatard dominating the entire game.
And in the first game, Lafayette Central Catholic edged Indianapolis Lutheran 29-28 for the Class A title.
Central Catholic pulled to within one-point with 10-seconds left, then went ahead on a successful two-point conversion.
2A, 4A and 6A championships are decided Saturday.
