Reggie Miller says Kevin Durant trading legacy for 'jewelry'

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Pacers great Reggie Miller is no fan of Kevin Durant's move to the Golden State Warriors.

In an op-ed for Bleacher Report, Miller, who now works as an NBA analyst for TNT, said the move was a "bad look for the league."

"Between the huge signings of mediocre players and now KD defecting to the Warriors, there are really only five or six teams you are interested in watching—and only three of those have a real shot to win the championship," Miller wrote. "It's going to be a boring season unless the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks or Boston Celtics are on TNT or ESPN every week."

Miller went on to say that Durant traded his legacy for "jewelry."

Miller, who never won a championship during his 18 years with the Pacers, said he wishes he had a championship ring to show for his time in the NBA, but that he wouldn't trade his time with the Pacers for it.

"Not winning a championship burns me to this day … nevertheless, it was the fight to put Indiana on the map that, in my mind, is my greatest accomplishment," Miller said.

The criticism is increasingly common toward the NBA, which is seen as increasingly being dominated by a handful of teams loaded with All-Star athletes.

Durant will join the 2015 NBA Champion Warriors, who narrowly lost a repeat championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James – himself criticized for leaving the Cavs to "chase a ring" in Miami, where he and the Heat won two championships.
