INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Pacers coach Frank Vogel has reached a deal in principle to join the Orlando Magic, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.

Vogel's contract as head coach of the Pacers wasn't renewed this year after five-and-a-half years with the team.

Team President Larry Bird said it was "time for a new voice around here."

"Sometimes my job really sucks," Bird said. "This is one of the toughest things I've done."

Vogel had a 250-181 record with the Pacers (.580 winning percentage) in the regular season, and 28-26 record in the playoffs.

Associate Head Coach Nate McMillan was later announced as Vogel's replacement. He previously served as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Sonics.

Vogel will retain an Indiana connection in Orlando, as he'll be coaching former IU basketball standout Victor Oladipo, who was drafted by the Magic in 2013.

The Magic had a 35-47 record this season. They haven't seen the playoffs -- or a winning season -- in four years.
