WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University has hired a new athletic director.

Mike Bobinski was announced to be Purdue's next athletic director in a press conference Tuesday morning.

Bobinski has been athletic director at Georgia Tech since 2013. He's also been athletic director at the University of Akron and Xavier University.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels and Board of Trustees Chairman Michael Berghoff announced the new hire.

“Today’s announcement culminates an extraordinarily long and thorough process, befitting the importance of its subject,” Daniels said. "Together, Mike and I have logged many miles and hours looking for the best individual to build on the terrific 23-year record of our nationally admired AD Morgan Burke. His credentials, record, values and intensely competitive desire to win convinced us that Mike Bobinski is that person.”

Bobinski has 20 years of experience as an athletic director.
