Peak leaf colors — and where to see them

Posted

Every fall, Mother Nature puts on a show as the leaves change from green to various hues of orange, red and yellow.

The leaves change color because of the decreasing sunlight and cooler weather that comes with fall and winter.

As a result, higher latitudes and higher altitudes begin to see the changing leaves before everyone else.

In the coming months, peak colors will travel into the rest of the country from the Rocky Mountains, Upper Midwest and Northeast.

In the meantime, enjoy the annual show from the trees all around us.
