YORKTOWN — A suspected dealer has been arrested in connection with a man's overdose death in Delaware County.
Yorktown Police Department officers began their investigation into the death of John Adams on January 17. The coroner determined that Adams had died from acute mixed drug intoxication.
According to a probable cause filed by the Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, police obtained transcripts from a conversation over Facebook messenger between Adams and another man that appeared to show they had exchanged money for drugs.
Police believe the second man sold and/or supplied the drug that Adams consumed the morning after that conversation that led to his death. Following up on that bit of information, police also interviewed multiple witnesses near Adams' home that said that man had visited on the night of January 16 for a short period of time.
In those court documents, police also say the man admitted to police that he had sold Adams "ice" or methamphetamine on the night prior to his death. He also admitted to having the conversation over Facebook messenger.
Police arrested the man on February 21 and charged him with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death. The charge stems from an Indiana statute that took effect in July 2018 stating that if a person knowingly or intentionally manufacturers or delivers a controlled substance" that results in someone's death they can be charged in that death.
The man has not been formally charged at this time.
The death remains under investigation by the Yorktown Police Department.
