Mark your calendar for Target’s car seat trade-in event

Parents in the market for a new car seat can take an expired or unwanted one to Target to get a deal on a new one.

The store has been having car seat trade-in events since 2016. They now offer 20% off a new car seat purchase to those who bring in their old infant or toddler car seats.

Since the program’s inception, Target has recycled more than half a million car seats! And actually, Target has recycled 11.9 million pounds of materials through trade-in events overall.

We love that the brand is helping the environment in this way. Car seats expire and, when you have no choice but to upgrade, it’s great to have access to a deal like this one.

This year’s car seat trade-in event at Target runs Sept. 3-13., and the 20%-off coupon you’ll receive once you trade in that old seat is valid through Sept. 14.

“Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged. Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partner, Waste Management,” reads a Target news release.

Waste Management will turn the car seats into new products including pallets, plastic buckets and construction materials such as steel beams and carpet padding.

People who take advantage of Target’s car seat trade-in offer get one coupon per car seat they turn in. While you have to take the seats to the physical store, the coupons may be used either in-store or online.

Need recommendations for the top infant car seats? Target says its current trending toddler car seat is the Graco TurboBooster Highback Booster for $49.99. It’s a 2-in-1 that converts to a backless booster seat when your child is older.

The retailer carries several popular brands in addition to Graco, including Chicco, which is on sale right now.
